Virat Kohli Golden Duck: New Chandigarh: Virat Kohli's return to the spotlight in the India vs West Indies ODI series took an unexpected turn on Saturday as the former India captain was dismissed for a golden duck in the third and final ODI.

West Indies pacer Jayden Seales produced the breakthrough at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, knocking over Kohli's middle stump with his first legitimate delivery to the Indian batter. The dismissal came at a crucial stage as India lost two early wickets.

Kohli had come to the crease after captain Shubman Gill was dismissed cheaply. Seales first delivered a wide that Kohli left alone. The next delivery was fuller and came into the batter, with Kohli attempting to play across the line. He missed, and the ball crashed into the middle stump.

The dismissal marked only the fourth ODI golden duck of Kohli's career, according to reports. His previous ODI golden duck had also come against the West Indies, in Visakhapatnam in December 2019.

Jayden Seales Joins a Rare List

Seales' wicket was significant beyond the immediate match situation. He became only the fourth bowler to dismiss Kohli with the first legitimate ball he faced in an ODI.

Daren Sammy, Tim Bresnan and Kieron Pollard had previously achieved the feat, according to Moneycontrol.

The moment also created one of the most talked-about early incidents of the third ODI, with Kohli's unexpected dismissal coming after India's strong performances in the opening two matches.

India Under Early Pressure

India entered the final ODI with a 2–0 series lead, having won both previous matches by eight wickets. The third match therefore gives the hosts an opportunity to complete a clean sweep.

However, the start was far less comfortable. Shubman Gill was dismissed before Kohli's arrival, followed quickly by Kohli's golden duck. The early wickets put additional responsibility on Rohit Sharma and the middle order.

Rohit also reached a major career milestone during the innings, becoming the fourth batter in ODI history to record 10,000 runs as an opener and the fastest to reach the mark, according to reports.

Virat Kohli Golden Duck: A Rare Kohli Dismissal

For a batter as consistent in ODI cricket as Kohli, a first-ball dismissal remains an unusual occurrence. His latest golden duck has therefore become a major talking point from the India-West Indies series.

For West Indies, meanwhile, Seales' early double strike provided a significant boost in a match where the visitors are attempting to prevent India from completing a 3–0 series sweep.

The India vs West Indies third ODI is being played at New Chandigarh on October 3, with India batting first after winning the toss.
