Oud Metha Road Dubai 2026: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the major Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street Development Project, bringing new bridges, tunnels and road improvements to one of the key traffic corridors in the city.

The project covers 14 kilometres of roads and four major intersections. According to the RTA, the upgrades are designed to reduce journey time along the route from around 20 minutes to five minutes and increase road capacity by up to 50 per cent.

One of the main changes is the increase in Oud Maitha Street’s capacity from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour in both directions.

The RTA says this represents a 50 per cent increase in capacity, while the journey time is expected to fall from 20 minutes to five minutes — a 75 per cent reduction.

The improvement is particularly relevant for motorists travelling between Oud Maitha Road, Al Asayel Street and nearby major road corridors.

Four bridges and two tunnels added

The completed project includes four bridges and two tunnels with a combined length of 4,300 metres.

Several junctions have been redesigned to separate traffic movements and reduce overlapping flows. At the Oud Maitha Road and Sheikh Rashid Road intersection, for example, the left-turn ramp towards Al Garhoud Bridge was expanded, while right-turn lanes towards Dubai-Al Ain Road increased from two to three.

A new tunnel also connects the Oud Maitha Road service road with the Sheikh Rashid Road intersection for traffic heading towards Bur Dubai.

Further improvements were made around Al Asayel Street, Al Wasl Club Street and Al Khail Road, including new bridges serving different traffic movements.

Areas connected by the project

The road development improves access to several established residential and service areas, including Za’abeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Maitha and Umm Hurair.

It also supports access to important destinations such as Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club. The RTA expects the areas served by the project to have a population of more than 420,000 by 2030.

The Oud Metha Road upgrade is part of Dubai’s wider programme to improve traffic movement and connect major road corridors as the city continues to grow.

With the project now completed, motorists using Oud Maitha Road, Al Asayel Street, Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Khail Road and nearby routes will benefit from the redesigned intersections, additional road capacity and new grade-separated connections.

The RTA’s latest announcement confirms that all works under the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street Development Project have been completed.
