Dubai Driving Test Failed: Failing the Dubai Road Test does not mean you have to restart the entire driving-licence process. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has a specific procedure for candidates who do not pass their practical test.

The most important rule to know in 2026 is that after every failed Road Test, you must complete four training sessions before taking the test again. Once the required training is completed, you can book another Road Test.

The current RTA Road Test fee is AED 220, including AED 200 for the test and AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fees. However, your total cost after failing will also depend on the training charges from your driving institute.

After failing the Dubai Road Test

The next step is not simply booking another test immediately. RTA requires four training sessions after each failed Road Test.

After completing the required training, you can book a new Road Test. RTA states that a new appointment can be booked once the training requirements have been completed.

This means candidates should check their training record with their driving institute before assuming they can immediately select another test date.

The four-session requirement also applies to candidates using the Golden Chance route if they fail the Road Test. RTA specifically states that a candidate with a Golden Visa who fails must complete a four-hour training course before retaking the Road Test.

Dubai Road Test retest fee in 2026

The standard RTA Road Test charge is currently AED 220:

  • Road Test: AED 200

  • Knowledge and Innovation fee: AED 20

  • Total: AED 220

This is the RTA test charge and does not represent the complete cost of a retest after failing, because the required training sessions are an additional expense charged by the driving institute.

RTA also lists optional services, including a VIP Driving Test at AED 2,620 and an Instant Test at AED 420 for eligible categories. These are separate from the standard Road Test.

Can you appeal a failed Dubai driving test?

Yes. If you believe your Road Test result was incorrect, RTA provides an official appeal service.

The important deadline is 14 days from the date of the Road Test result. The current appeal fee is AED 320, made up of AED 300 for the application and AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fees.

The appeal can be submitted through the RTA website. Candidates can review the recorded test information, including immediate fails and minor faults, select the items they believe are incorrect and provide their feedback. RTA says the committee reviews the result and the Road Test video before deciding the appeal.

RTA lists the service time as 5 working days. If an appeal is approved, the test result is changed and the appeal fee is refunded. If it is rejected, the original result remains and the candidate must complete the required training and take the Road Test again.

One important point: an appeal cannot be cancelled after it has been submitted, according to RTA's current service information.

Don't miss your next appointment

There are also timing rules that can affect a driving file. RTA says a training file can be suspended if the candidate does not take one of the required driving tests within six months from the last appointment date.

If you already know that you cannot attend your scheduled Road Test, RTA allows rescheduling through its online channels or a driving institute up to 24 hours before the test date. Missing the scheduled test without rescheduling means you need to book another appointment and pay the test fee again.

Candidates should also arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment for confirmation.

Dubai Driving Test Failed: What to do after a failed Dubai driving test

If you have just received a failed result, the practical sequence is straightforward:

Check your test result → complete the required four training sessions → book another Road Test → attend the test on the scheduled date.

If you believe the result itself was wrong, check the result promptly because the RTA appeal window is only 14 days.

For anyone planning their next attempt, it is also worth reviewing the specific faults recorded during the previous test rather than simply taking the four sessions without addressing the reason for the failure.

RTA's current rules were updated in September 2026, so candidates should rely on the latest RTA service information when checking fees, appointments and eligibility rather than older driving-school articles.
